Digital artists are stretching the boundaries of technology: sometimes advancing even faster than technology itself. They are artists who make digital art using computer graphics software, digital photography technology and computer assisted painting to create art.

However artists using this technical tool can be misunderstood in the traditional art world, finding little space in that sphere; often working in complete independence and solitude. In every craft there are many facets and much to learn; even more applies to the digital art world which is constantly changing. Digital artists can inspire and enrich each others’ art experience through their sharing of skills, ideas, opinions, resources, events and avenues to promote their work.

Our purpose is to bring together an online community of digital artists doing some spectacular creative work in the Okanagan region of British Columbia. This valley is a jewel set in the province’s interior; a myriad of lakes and mountains, a temperate desert-like climate, a burgeoning wine growing and tourism area: it draws many artists to its cities. Artists need as many outlets and avenues to promote themselves and their work as possible. It’s important to have a wide network of other people working in a similar medium as yourself. Most digital artists display work through personal websites but marketing an individual website and getting enough traffic to make the site lucrative can be very challenging. A good web marketing strategy is to link your site to a profile page on a directory of artists that is comprehensive, vast and diverse; it can make your online traffic increase substantially.

Please spread the message about this online community; send the link to digital artists who may not be connected to another local group. We are just getting established and look forward to artists joining us. There is no membership fee. Digital artists need to interface; through participation and contribution they will create their community. This web portal will be marketed to galleries, studios, interior designers, art publishing houses and art appreciators from all over the country as a place to find local digital artists that they previously would have had no access to.

As a digital artist and marketing professional, this online network is being developed and managed by Beth Haggerty (pzazzdigital.com) who saw a need for a digital artist directory and network for this region. beth@digitalartokanagan.com
