Darrel Giesbrecht
Winfield, BC
Though raised in the Okanagan Valley, Darrel headed to Langley to attend Trinity Western University. He then pursued a career in aviation; flying as a bush pilot in northern Canada for a number of years. He later returned to school to obtain a Masters of Theological Studies at Regent College in Vancouver BC.
Inspired by his personal faith, love for nature, and perhaps how the two intertwine, it is Darrel’s desire that the images he is privileged to record would, in some way, become miniature “zenviews”, or windows, through which the observer might catch a fleeting glimpse, and maybe even participate in, the mystery and wonder of a reality that is much bigger than ourselves.
The celebrated photographer, Anne Liebowitz, once made the comment that a camera becomes merely a tool to learn how to see without a camera. The idea of going beyond the image lies at the heart of what Darrel’s work tries to do.
